A “biological annihilation” of wildlife in recent decades means a sixth mass extinction in Earth’s history is under way and is more severe than previously feared, according to research.
Scientists analysed both common and rare species and found billions of regional or local populations have been lost. They blame human overpopulation and overconsumption for the crisis and warn that it threatens the survival of human civilisation, with just a short window of time in which to act.

Annihilation: A Novel (The Southern Reach Trilogy Book 1) – This is one of the more interesting sci-fi books I’ve read lately. I ordered it after seeing one of my favorite artists mention it and read the reviews. I have to say I didn’t really see the “twist” at the end coming. I guess it’s going to be a movie in the next couple of years. Definitely worth the read if you like apocalyptic tales.
Dark Universe – This is an anthology of short sci-fi stories that all tie together by being in a single universe but not necessarily the same time. I’m enjoying it, each story is well written and leaves you wanting more from the author.
As soon as I am finished with Dark Universe, I’ll begin on Binti.
Training Essentials for Ultrarunning: How to Train Smarter, Race Faster, and Maximize Your Ultramarathon Performance – I wish I had read this sooner in the training season. It’s a great book and an engaging read, especially for a book on sports training. I feel I took a lot of great information from it that I will be using in my future training. Definitely worth the reading time.
The Push: A Climber’s Journey of Endurance, Risk, and Going Beyond Limits – I preordered this book. It arrived on my Kindle and I started reading it. It is taking some time for me to get through it though. It’s a not a difficult or boring read by any stretch of the imagination, but there is so much emotion in it, I am letting it soak in.
Went to the bookstore for a study Bible, came home with a book of poetry by Charles Bukowski.
